Last week I went with my husband and our two boys to the Netherlands for a short family holiday (my husband is Dutch so we wanted to visit his parents) but the main reason of the trip was Kelly Brown’s newborn photography workshop that focused on newborn posing. Oh my God, I don’t even know where to start…that week was way beyond AMAZING! We left Sweden and its grey landscape in order to be welcomed by beautiful sunny weather in Amsterdam where you could feel the summer warmth!
We landed on Saturday, the workshop was held on the 2nd of April so I had a few days to hang out with my family and I enjoyed that time a lot! The biggest impression on me (after Kelly of course) made Keukenhof – it’s a huge garden with thousands of tulips and other flowers. It was stunning! We spent a couple of hours there, walking through the flower beds, enjoying the sun, watching the boys playing at the playground. We had a blast!
The day before the workshops my husband, our two boys and I went to Noordwijk which is situated north-west of Amsterdam. It’s by the beach so I was excited to spend another great day with my family. I would then stay at the B&B and they would go back to my parents-in-law’s. It was a beautiful morning. We took a long walk along the beach and the dunes. The sun started to peeking out and it got really hot. In the afternoon my boys left and I met two other photographers (and friends) from Sweden who would participate in the workshop. We would meet Kelly and her family plus some of the other girls who would attend the class at the Mexican restaurant at the beach. When I saw Kelly for the first time walking towards the restaurant with her two daughters and Marry the workshop hostess I couldn’t believe that I’m just about to meet the person whom I have admired for so long! It felt almost surreal! And let me tell you – Kelly is one of the most friendly people I’ve met! So down to earth, humble and gracious and has this beautiful aura around her that just wants you to be around her. I know I probably sound like a mad fan but I am! That was such a great night!
The next morning Gabriella, Laila and I went to the beautiful villa where Kelly and her family stayed and where we would have the class. I’d already seen Kelly’s class on CreativeLive but to be a part of her teaching live, in person, was such a great experience! We had 3 different newborn babies who came there with their parents (one family drove 2 hours especially for the occasion!) and Kelly covered safe posing, her technique, soothing techniques, working with toddlers and older children, contact with parents, post processing and marketing (social media, blogging – you name it). She handled those babies with such grace and love, posing them to perfection explaining it all at the same time. She made it look so easy! I could go on and on rambling about how wonderful she was but I’ll let you look at the photos instead
some photos of the babies posed and styled by Kelly and shot and edited by me
I’m so so grateful for this experience! I loved every single moment of that day. In the evening we went out again and had dinner with Kelly. It felt like talking to an old friend really. She shared many personal stories with us and that’s another reason why I love and admire her – despite her great talent and recognition in the newborn photography field (Kelly was just named Queensland Professional Photographer of the year and won the Family category for the 3rd year in a row at an Australian Institute of Professional Photography ) she is still the person willing to share her experiences with us. <3 <3
It means the world to me that I was able to be a part of this – both personally and professionally. I’m so excited about my future photo shoots now, after I’ve seen how to pose babies in order to create most beautiful newborn baby art!
(Thank you Soutine Photography!)
